History

When the world renowned gigantic Nagarjuna Sagar Dam was under construction, thousands of engineers and other employees settled down in Nagarjuna Sagar along with their families. These employees approached Sr.Ferdiando, JMJ the then provincial superior through Rt. Rev. Ignatius Mummadi, the Bishop of Guntur to extend their services. At their persistent request Sr. Ferdinando sent Mrs. Lily Swamy one of the teachers of St.Joseph's English Medium School, Guntur to start and manage the English Medium School at Nagarjuna Sagar as the province was short of sister personnel just then.

St. Joseph's upper primary English Medium school, Hill Colony was started in 1961-62 with classes I to VII, later they were recognised in 1969. This school building was inaugurated on 4th August, 1967 by our beloved Prime Minister, Late. Smt. Indira Gandhi and was blessed by Rt. Rev. Dr. A. Beretta Bishop of Warangal Diocese. This school is opened to all communities catering to the chidren of the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam area. St.Joseph's Telugu Medium (Primary section), was started in 1971-72 with classes I to V. In the same year 1971-72, VI and VII are opened. In 1972-73, VIII class, in 1973-74 IX class and in 1974-75 class X were opened.

In 1979, English Medium classes VIII and IX were opened as parallel sections to Telugu Medium High School and in 1980 class X. These classes were recognised but unaided.

This school consists of strong building of two floors. The school has 33 class rooms with good furniture, a well equipped laboratory, a library with a very good collection of books, modern audio visual equipment including TV and VCR, a large play ground and above all the pucca sanitary and drinking water facilities.

  • The school administrative building and KG section completed in 2009.
  • P.A system was installed in 2010.
  • A new water tank (50,000 ltrs capacity) was constructed in 2011.
  • Mid-day meal shed for cooking with cement platforms for students to take meals was built in 2011.
  • Laboratory was shifted to another room and it was renovated and modified as conference hall (WOLFF's Hall). It was inaugurated by Sri. Venkatrama Sarma, MEO, Peddavoora in 2012. The school also has a Projector and two screens to accomodate students to show some important programs.

Our school has well trained experienced and dedicated teaching staff. They have given chances to up-grade their educational qualifications and provision is made to attend workshops, seminars, refresher courses conducted by the education dept. and JMJ society.
